MCD is a global public health nonprofit incorporated in Maine that helps improve health and well-being in communities worldwide. Our highly qualified staff share a passionate commitment to creating, implementing, evaluating, and supporting results-based programs and solutions that improve the quality of people's lives on a daily basis, in Maine and throughout the U.S. MCD's U.S. Programs unit is designated a Category A Public Health Institute, one of over forty within the National Network of Public Health Institutes, a professional network of leaders driving public health innovation across the U.S., drawing from and contributing to - a national pool of the latest evidence-based research, practices, and training. MCD's U.S. Programs are designed to enhance the effectiveness of local, state, and regional healthcare and public health systems in achieving collective goals to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. MCD works with a myriad of partners and stakeholders, including health systems, hospitals, academic centers, all disciplines of healthcare providers, policymakers, vendors, federal, state, and local governments, community health organizations, insurers, employers, and individuals to help them adopt new practice methods, and develop new community programs. MCD's U.S. Programs collaborate with partners and stakeholders to identify resources for supporting disease prevention and management interventions, and to implement programs focused on enhancing access to care and resources for rural and underserved populations. Activities include: e-Learning as well as traditional curriculum development and training for a wide variety of health sectors; quality improvement coaching and facilitation; telehealth and technology; systems strengthening; and linking providers with community-based supports for their clients.In 2023 MCD's U.S. Programs continued to lead multiple efforts focused on helping regional and national stakeholders transition through the COVID-19 pandemic and public health emergency, as well as significantly expanding workforce development initiatives, with focuses on community health workers, rural behavioral health, oral health, primary and specialty care, and more. These efforts include but are not limited to: partnering with the Maine DHHS to staff ongoing COVID response needs, providing telehealth technical assistance to thousands of healthcare systems and providers; offering over 200 outreach events including presentations at regional and national conferences, trainings, and webinars, and developing many customized virtual training resources and outreach materials to ensure access to high quality, timely information for both the healthcare workforce and the public. MCD's U.S. Programs continued to expand efforts through its Rural Behavioral Health Workforce Center, to increase and sustain Maine's Behavioral Health workforce through partnerships across the health care spectrum, via mentorship and evidence-based training programs such as Recovery Jobs for Beginners, and by addressing barriers to Maine's rural workforce. MCD's U.S. Programs also collaborated with state and regional partners to provide Project ECHO(R) programming for hundreds of stakeholders across the Northeast, with focuses on pediatric and adolescent mental health in primary care and school settings, substance use disorder, de-prescribing, and social isolation among older adults in rural communities. Specific areas of expertise include: HIV/AID, diabetes prevention and management, oral health, lead poisoning prevention, screening and management, cardiovascular disease prevention and management, maternal and child health, tobacco and substance use prevention and treatment resources, mental and behavioral health, suicide prevention, immunization/vaccination, antibiotic resistance, infectious disease epidemiology and prevention, COVID-19 response, climate and health, cancer screening and prevention, worksite health and wellness, early childhood, food security and nutrition, public policy, and more.
