The program was initiated to bring regular medical practitioners, supplies and equipment to families in the border towns of Naco, AZ and Sonora. When the border wall went up in 2007, blocking easy access to medical services, NWI answered by building two health/wellness clinics in Naco, Sonora, to provide triage services physical therapy medical equipment screenings for diabetes and tuberculosis, prenatal care and regular blood pressure monitoring, plus childrens dental and eye exams. To further improve community health and wellness, NWIs Change Your Life program provides cooking, exercise, nutrition and early childhood development classes. NWI provides a broad range of clinic services and programs blood pressure checks, blood sugar glucose level tests, first aid, individual and family diabetes management workshops, early child development classes, prenatal and postpartum seminars, chronic disease management, Zumba exercise workouts, CPR training, and physical therapy. Medical equipment loans are available wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, oxygen concentrators, etc.

NWI operates a 1.5 acre production farm in the poorest community in Naco, Sonora, where the need for food is extremely great. A large variety and quantity of nutrient-dense vegetables are harvested throughout the year and distributed free, with priority given to those in greatest need. Gardening classes, soil development and maintenance support are also provided for more than 140 families and three community schools.
