THE TOWNSHEND HISTORICAL SOCIETY SPEARHEADED, DIRECTED AND OVERSAW THE RESTORATION OF AN HISTORIC JAMES FOLLET STONE ARCH BRIDGE IN WEST TOWNSHEND. THE PROJECT WAS FUNDED BY $256,366 IN PRIVATE DONATIONS RAISED BY THE TOWNSHEND HISTORICAL SOCIETY, A $221,000 SAVE AMERICA'S TREASURES GRANT FROM THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND ADMINISTERED BY THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, A $20,000 GRANT FROM THE VERMONT DIVISION FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION AND $315,670 IN TOWN APPROPRIATIONS. THE PROJECT WAS COMPLETED IN 2024 WITH A TOTAL BUDGET OF $813,036 AND IT WAS FINISHED WITHIN THE SCHEDULED FIVE MONTHS BY STANDING STONE, LLC. THE TOWNSHEND HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS PROUD AND GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN PART OF SUCH A MONUMENTAL SUCCESS.
