THE WORDS COUNT PROGRAM IS THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE SHELTER FOR WOMEN ORGANIZATION. OPERATED OUT OF THE ORIGINAL WOMEN'S SHELTER, WORDS COUNT IS A PARENT-DIRECTED, STAFF SUPPORTED PLAY BASED PROGRAM THAT STRIVES TO ENHANCE CHILDREN'S VOCABULARIES AND CONVERSATIONAL ABILITIES. THE PROGRAM USES AN INDUSTRY STANDARD ELECTRONIC ANALYTICAL TOOL TO COUNT AND MEASURE THE AMOUNT OF ADULT SPOKEN WORDS A CHILD HEARS, AND THE AMOUNT OF CONVERSATIONS THE CHILD HAS WITH ADULTS. THIS DATA IS USED TO COACH THE PARENTS AND ESTABLISH A MORE NURTURING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. OUTCOMES INCLUDE IMPROVED PARENTING SKILLS AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT.
