Out of school Time Grant (OST) funded by office of Deputy Mayor for Education to serve 120 youth for the program to addresses economic insecurity by implementing work plans that focus on work readiness, and build the non-technical skills, abilities and traits required to function in an employment environment while building literacy and numeracy skills. Our program participants experience a number of challenges adjusting to American life, and many local customs and traditions can be baffling. ECSDC will work with participants to improve their English speaking skills, acclimate them to American culture, including knowledge of holiday traditions, weather, entertainment, food and social customs bridging the gaps that separate them from their American peers. ECSDC is a unique program and fills the void that exists for at-risk African immigrant youth

Mayor office of African Affair funding is to support existing Work Readiness Training Program. The program is designed to empower 60 underserved out-of-school youth, aged 16-21, residing in D.C.s poorest wards (5, 7, and 8). These youth face heightened risks of unemployment, poverty, homelessness, poor health outcomes, and social isolation, particularly within the African immigrant community, which experiences disproportionately high unemployment rates and systemic barriers to success.
