"THE GWYOA, FOUNDED IN 1953, IS DEDICATED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG PEOPLE'S MUSICIANSHIP THROUGH CLASSICAL MUSIC TRAINING ENSEMBLE REHEARSAL, AND PUBLIC PERFORMANCE. THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES THREE ORCHESTRAS SERVING STUDENTS IN GRADES FOUR THROUGH TWELVE FROM WESTCHESTER COUNTY AND THE SURROUNDING TRI-STATE AREA. WEEKLY REHEARSALS ARE HELD AT WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN VALHALLA, NY, UNDER PROFESSIONAL DIRECTION. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE GWYOA MUSICIANS PERFORM CONCERTS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY AT CARE FACILITIES, HOSPITALS, AND SCHOOLS. ALL THREE ORCHESTRAS PERFORM WINTER AND SPRING CONCERTS EACH YEAR, INCLUDING A SPRING GALA CONCERT AT DAVID GEFFEN HALL, LINCOLN CENTER. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES GROUNDING IN COOPERATION, BUILDS SELF-ESTEEM, AND PROMOTES HARMONY IN OUR ETHNICALLY DIVERSE COMMUNITY. NEED-BASED TUITION ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE TO ENSURE ACCESS FOR ALL QUALIFIED YOUNG MUSICIANS. "
