Habitat Restoration: SLT maintains and improves the habitats on two SLT-owned parcels located in the Town of Somers: Rhinoceros Creek Reservation and 85 Warren Street. Restoration activities include fighting invasive species, planting native species, and managing beaver wetlands.Conservation Demonstration: SLT creates projects, programs and a newsletter that demonstrate conservation strategies and promote awareness of the natural world, and offer actions people can take on their own property.Provision of passive outdoor recreation for the public: SLT created and maintains trails and other amenities in Rhinoceros Creek Reservation including a pavilion, a native garden, and benches. SLT manages projects by local scouting groups to continue improving the public's experiences.Environmental Stewardship: SLT two open-space parcels in the Town of Somers: Rhinocerous Creek Reservation and 85 Warren Street. On Rhinoceros Creek Reservation, SLT manages native gardens, beaver wetland complexes, streams, ponds, trails, and other public-accessible facilities including a large open-air pavilion, benches, and a bird blind.Public Education and Outreach: SLT fosters environmental and nature programs through youth and scout projects, partnerships with environmental education organizations, a website and newsletter, and hosts speakers at events which are open to the public.
