THE DURABLE SKILLS PROJECT WAS PROVIDED TO APPROXIMATELY 120 STUDENTS AT EACH OF THE THREE TRADITIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN LEE COUNTY. IT WAS A COMBINED PROJECT WITH BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF LEE COUNTY, LEE COUNTY SCHOOLS, AND THE LEE COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION. THE INTENT OF THE PROJECT IS TO PROVIDE THE SELECTED STUDENTS, WHO ARE CHOSEN BY THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOLS, WITH INSTRUCTION AND GUIDANCE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF DURABLE SKILLS, OR "SOFT SKILLS" AS THEY ARE OFTEN REFERRED TO. THE FIRST YEAR RESULTED IN VERY IMPRESSIVE GAINS IN ACHIEVEMENT AND ATTENDANCE. SINCE THIS PROJECT RELIES ON THE STAFF FROM BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB TO PROVIDE THE INSTRUCTION, WE WERE NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE IT DUE TO PERSONNEL ISSUES AT THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB.
