Many members of the New York arts community's gallery spaces and works of art were destroyed by the ravages of Superstorm Sandy in 2012. As part of its primary mission, the Association established a fund to ensure that the victims of the storm would be able to remain in business and carry on the stated purpose of the Association. The remainer of donations has been retained to provide similar aid in the event of future disasters.
