Since 1907, JAANY has been the heart of the Japanese community in the New York Area. We serve our community through bilingual social services, educational programs, and community outreach. We provide social welfare to the Japanese and Japanese American Community through a network of dedicated volunteers. Our community activities are free consultations on legal and health-medical matters, keirokai (luncheon for seniors at JAA hall, pick up and lunch delivery to bedridden seniors) and Apple Kids group activities for families with young children. We provide classes on a variety of subjects and transmit information to newcomers and the general community. We sponsor baseball games at Central Park and Randalls Island every Sunday morning from April to August, Japanese Language Workshops, Sakura Matsuri at Flushing Meadows Corona Park and Tanabata Festival at Carl Schurz Park. JAA maintains archives in the New York area, supports the Oral History Project and provides scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors. JAA organizes the Committee on Aging issues with the Consulate General of Japan in New York and other concerned organizations in the New York area for the purpose of researching and dealing with the increasing demands of Japanese and Japanese American aging population. We hold two annual health fairs to update information for all ages in our community. JAA has cultural classes such as tea ceremony, calligraphy class and others. Recently we are the center of the Digital Museum of the History of Japanese in New York.
