The Michigan Street Baptist Church isThe only structure built by and for African Americans in the city ofBuffalo and its founding members planned a significant role in theUnderground Railroad. Later members Mary Talbert and Reverend Nash played a significant role in the early fight for Black Civil Rights. The Michigan Street Baptist Church had been structurally unsound for several years and scaffolding was in the sanctuary for about ten years. Stabilizing the church was a significant accomplishment of the BNFSC and the MSBC is nowstructurally sound and will be here for future generations to learn aboutits extraordinary legacy.
