FAITH IN ACTION ALABAMA

Voter Engagement - In 2025, our voter engagement work focused on raising awareness about an Escambia County ballot initiative that would slightly increase property taxes to raise needed revenue to help keep open the countys two hospitals. Faith in Action Alabama volunteers collaborated with another civic group, Brewton Citizens for Civic Engagement. Faith in Action Alabama volunteers held two text-banking sessions, through which they sent messages to friends and neighbors in Escambia County to raise awareness of the ballot initiative and encourage them to vote in support of it In addition, Faith in Action Alabama volunteers sent pulpit announcements about the ballot initiative to clergy in Escambia County and asked them to share this information with their congregants. Through this voter engagement campaign, Faith in Action Alabama engaged over 1,500 Escambia County residents.

Peacemaker Campaign (Anti-Gun Violence Work)Faith in Action Alabamas volunteers in Birmingham and Mobile were active in the organizations anti-gun violence work. In Birmingham, Faith in Action Alabama volunteers led weekly night walks in an area of the city hard-hit by gun violence to build relationships with neighborhood residents. In addition, in July, Faith in Action Alabama held a community event at First Presbyterian Church, in Birmingham, to raise awarenss of a hosptial-/community-based anti-gun violence strategy that has contributed to a significant reduction in gun violence in Birmingham. (In 2025, Birmingham witnessed an over fifty percent reduction in gun violence compared to 2024.) Over 80 people attended the community event. In Mobile, in 2025, Faith in Action Alabama volunteers was active in raising awareness about the gun violence reduction strategy that city of Birmingham has implemented. This work included meetings with experts about the strategy and key civic and city officials.
