Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund To respond to our changing world and evolving climate, SVCF in 2023 created the Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund, an ongoing effort that will support immediate and long-term local disaster recovery efforts. The historic local rainfalls of the 2022-23 winter season and previous fires catalyzed the fund's launch. The fund distributed grants totaling more than $719,000 in 2023, including to organizations serving those affected by storms and floods and those affected by fatal shootings at two local farms. Community Action Grants Program SVCF's Community Action program funds local organizations serving communities of color and other disenfranchised communities. In 2023, Community Action Grants totaling more than $1.9 million were awarded to over 60 organizations across different issue areas, including arts and culture, faith and neighborhoods, local journalism, civic participation, the environment, and health. Investing in Movement- and Power-Building SVCF is working to address structural inequalities and power dynamics in the community through grant funds supporting nonprofits serving people of color, people with low income, and immigrants, among others. Our initiatives include the California Black Freedom Fund, the LatinXCEL Fund, and Equity Forward. These funds - along with the structure of our Community Action Grants program - were created to address unequal access to power and funding by intentionally providing unrestricted funds to nonprofit organizations that organize and serve people of color, build coalitions and advocate for public-policy changes.
