ADAPTED SPORTS PROGRAMS: BIIS CONTINUED TO PROVIDE ADAPTED SPORTS EVENTS AND PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT 2023. THESE INCLUDED, WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL, BOCCIA, CYCLING, AIR RIFLE, AND ARCHERY AS OUR CORE. THE TOTAL ATTENDANCE WAS 792 INDIVIDUALS FOR TOTAL PROGRAM HOURS OF 327, AND 279 PROGRAM SESSIONS. BIIS HOSTED VALOR GAMES SOUTHEAST FOR THE 11TH YEAR SERVING 78 VETERANS, A CONTINUAL INCREASE AFTER THE PANDEMIC. BIIS HOSTED A YOUTH WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CAMP IN JULY SERVING 20 YOUTH FROM NC, SC, AND TN. ROCKY MOUNT WAS HOST TO THE 3 X 3 WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT WHERE THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED THE FIRST WOMEN'S 3 X 3. THIS EVENT IS A BLENDED VETERAN AND NON-VETERAN PROGRAM SERVING 33 VETERANS AND 12 NON-VETERANS. BRIDGE II SPORTS ALSO HELD A SANCTIONED YOUTH WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT WHERE TEAMS CAME FROM 5 STATES SERVING 150 YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES. IN ADDITION, BIIS WAS ASKED TO HOST A GROUP CONSORTIUM OF COLLEGE LEADERS FROM LEBANON IN AN ADAPTED SPORT EXPERIENCE. THE VIRTUAL FITNESS CHALLENGE (VFC) CONTINUES TO SERVE VETERANS IN RURAL AREAS WHO DO NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE IN ADAPTED SPORTS. A TOTAL OF 236 VETERANS WERE SERVED DURING 2023.
