4a. Land Management of natural areas and wildlife sanctuaries: (Delaware Bay Shore Preserves, Goose Pond Preserve, Little Piece Meadows Preserve, and the Troy Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary) The organization owns, manages, posts and patrols +/- 9,000 acres of natural lands as wildlife sanctuaries for the following uses: (a) for the protection of wild animals, plants and their habitats (including threatened and endangered species of fauna and flora); (b) for public passive recreational uses such as hiking, biking, bird watching, photography, nature observation and study; (c) for use by students, scouts, and the Boy Scouts of America for field trips and summer camping in the Meadows. (d) for flood storage (Some of the Organizations land is within the flood plain and serves an economic benefit to the public, especially during storm events). 4b. Land Management of mixed-use natural area (Great Piece Meadows, NJ) The Organization manages, posts and patrols +/-2,500 acres of meadowlands - Great Piece Meadows - owned primarily by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, NJ Natural Land Trust and the Township of Fairfield. Under individual management agreements between the Organization, the State of NJ, Township of Fairfield, NJ and the Fairfield Conservation and Sportsmens Club, the Meadows are managed and used for two different, distinct land uses and divided into two land-use zones: (a) A wildlife sanctuary zone for the protection of wild animals, plants and their habitats for public passive recreation;and (b) A wildlife management zone for use by game hunters. 4c. Land Management of Salt Marsh Bay Shore (Delaware Bay Shore Preserve) The Organization owns, manages, posts and patrols +/- 2,800 acres of tidal salt marshes at the Delaware Bay in southern New Jersey - the Delaware Bay Shore Preserve - as a wildlife sanctuary for the protection of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife and marsh and bay shore habitat. The preserve is managed for the following uses: (a) a critical resting and feeding area for migratory shorebirds; (b) a spawning area for horseshoe crabs; (c) a nesting site for aquatic turtles; (d) a nesting area for American bald eagles; (e) for educational studies and research
