Meals on Wheels in Metuchen-Edison-Woodbridge provides and delivers meals to homebound and senior citizens. Prepared food is provided by JFK Hospital in Edison, where our organization employs two part-time food packers. A hot meal, hot soup, and cold items (sandwich, salad, slice of bread, margarine, milk, fruit, etc.) are delivered Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) by approximately 75 volunteers, using their own vehicles. We never stopped delivering meals during the pandemic and continue to do so. All our employees and volunteers followed CDC guidelines (masking, social distancing, etc.) during that time. Volunteers are still not allowed into JFK Hospital. Instead, our paid packers bring the filled hot and cold containers outside to volunteer vehicles. After volunteers complete deliveries, they return to JFK Hospital and the food supervisor comes outside to retrieve empty hot and cold containers.
