THE HEAD START PRESCHOOL PROGRAM PROVIDES FULL-DAY, HIGH-QUALITY EARLY EDUCATION FOR 3- AND 4-YEAR-OLDS, WITH LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT PARTNERSHIPS AND COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AT TWO MORRIS COUNTY LOCATIONS. CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES RECEIVE AN ARRAY OF SERVICES AND REFERRALS, INCLUDING HEALTH AND WELLNESS, NUTRITION, DENTAL, MENTAL HEALTH, PARENT EDUCATION, HOME LITERACY AND VISITATION PROGRAMS. FREE SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FOR 213 CHILDREN, 91% OF WHOM WERE MULTI-LANGUAGE LEARNERS; MOST OF THE FAMILIES SERVED SPEAK SPANISH AT HOME. THE PROGRAM IS A GROW-NJ-KIDS 4-STAR-RATED PROGRAM, AND RECEIVED FEDERAL FUNDING TO COMPLETE A PROGRAM EXPANSION AND RENOVATION FROM THE OFFICE OF HEAD START.

THE EARLY HEAD START PROGRAM PROVIDES FULL-DAY, CENTER-BASED CARE AND EDUCATION SERVICES TO CHILDREN AGES 18-MONTHS TO 3 YEARS OF AGE. EXPECTANT MOTHERS AND PARENTS OF INFANTS PARTICIPATE IN A HOME-BASED PROGRAM, RECEIVING CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE SERVICES AND RESOURCES FROM BILINGUAL HOME EDUCATORS TO SUPPORT PARENT EDUCATION AND OPTIMAL CHILD DEVELOPMENT. FREE SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FOR 133 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES, 98% OF WHOM WERE MULTI-LANGUAGE LEARNERS, SPEAKING SPANISH IN THE HOME. TWO NEW CLASSROOMS WERE OPENED AT THE DOVER SITE TO SERVE 16 ADDITIONAL CHILDREN. THROUGH THE EARLY HEAD START PROGRAM, 100% OF CHILDREN SERVED HAD AN ONGOING SOURCE OF CONTINUOUS, ACCESSIBLE HEALTH CARE AND WERE ON SCHEDULE WITH CHILDHOOD VACCINATIONS. FULLY 100% OF EARLY HEAD START TEACHERS CARRY A CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (CDA) CREDENTIAL.
