Eligible families demonstrate a need for housing, an ability to pay, and a willingness to partner. Once selected, they attend financial education and volunteer on the construction site and at the ReStore, contributing up to 400 "sweat equity" hours. Mortgages are no more than 30 % of household income; this includes principal, interest, taxes, and insurance. Habitat homes are deed restricted for at least 30 years to keep affordable homes available to future home buyers.

Construction ------------HHSCNJ assists homeowners and communities in regaining stability by ensuring homes are safe, modern, and accessible. Low and moderate-income homeowners can receive exterior repairs performed by trade professionals, Habitat staff, and volunteers, while only paying a portion of the project cost. These repairs range from minor tasks like porch repair and painting to major projects such as roofing and appliance replacement, as well as accessibility improvements like ramps, railings, and door handles. To qualify, applicants must live in the home as their primary residence and intend to remain there for at least three years.
