The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad (SVFAS) is an independent, private,non-profit corporation dedicated to providing 24-hour response to 9-1-1 medical emergency calls in Summit, NJ. All services provided by SVFAS are free of charge, and support for the organization comes from private contributions. SVFAS is the City of Summits only emergency ambulance service, although it is not a city agency. While the Squad works closely with the citys Police and Fire departments, the city does not provide any equipment or funds for SVFAS. The SVFAS board, officers and licensed EMTs are all volunteers, and there are no paid positions. SVFAS responded to over 2,400 calls in 2024.
