LCH began in 1973 as a grassroots organization providing social services to farm workers in southern Chester County. Today, LCH provides comprehensive, integrated healthcare including primary care, women's health services, pediatrics, dental care, behavioral health counseling, social assistance, outreach, chiropractic care, access to the LCH Pharmacy, and educational support. In calendar year 2024, LCH assisted 1,146 unduplicated individuals 0-17 years of age. 5,650 unduplicated individuals 18-64 years of age, and 609 individuals 65 years of age and above. Of these individuals, 66% live at 200% or below federal poverty level. LCH caseworkers handled 7,024 appointments connecting patients to appropriate services outside LCH's scope of services. LCH clients face many obstacles to accessing healthcare, including lack of health insurance, language barriers, poverty, low education, and lack of transportation in this largely rural part of Chester County. Our mostly bi-lingual staff work with clients to determine their range of needs and refer them both to in-house LCH services and to services provided by other agencies in our community. LCH caseworkers assist with Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance applications, transportation, interpretation, referral appointment scheduling, and service agency connections.
