The VIA focuses on several major initiatives including schorarships, veterans, senior citizens and other community organizations. We provided $47,445 for scholarships to 8 teens and 8 women during the year. Youth scholarships are awarded each year to graduating seniors who are pursuing studies in human health care and nursing. Based on guidance from the Central Bucks School District, the VIA provides funds for several high school sophomores to attend the two-day Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership seminars. And the Womens Scholarship Committee provides needs-based financial support to women who are entering or re-entering the work force and pursing vocational certificates, education, or diplomas in undergraduate degree programs. The VIA s Community Outreach Committee provided almost $80,000 in support for the needs of more than 400 individuals in the community. Funds received from past and current family trust funds and Designer House proceeds were distributed to non-profit organizations who share the VIA s mission. The VIA s support is coordinated with these organizations to provide food, clothing, and shelter to individuals in need. Organizations receiving funds included: A Woman s Place, Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic, Bucks County Pantry, Coalition to Shelter & Support the Homeless, FISH, Lenape Valley Foundation, Liz s Birthday Closet, Meals on Wheels, and Valley Youth House. In addition, working in coordination with Doylestown Health, the VIA assists patients in need with payments for medications and transportation, and provides food and personal items to patients leaving the hospital. The James-Lorah Memorial Home, located in the center of Doylestown, is the headquarters of the VIA. Upon her passing in 1954, Sarah M James, a member of the VIA, bequeathed her 17-room residence and its contents to the VIA, establishing this home as the center of VIA activity. As membership grew and the VIA took on more projects, an auditorium complex was added and dedicated in 1964. The James-Lorah Memorial Home Committee is tasked with the preservation, restoration, and management of the James-Lorah Memorial Home and its contents, auditorium and grounds. The home itself is a treasured house-museum commemorating the families who have occupied it. Today it continues to contribute to the vibrant life of the community and the VIA. Numerous community organizations, along with the VIA, use the auditorium for various functions and meetings. The house is open for historic and educaitonal tours
