The work of SMVA Trust encompasses at least 11 of the 17 Sustainable Developmental goals by United Nations https://sdgs.un.org/goals and will soon seek consultative status with Economic and Social Council. https://ecosoc.un.org/enSMVA Trust is committed to the New Agenda for Peace, the Pact for the Future, and the vision of the UN80 Initiative by empowering women, youth, children, people with disabilities, and other stakeholders. It strives to reinvigorate a new momentum for change and social justice, grounded in a deep conviction of our common humanity and shared destiny. Considering current challenges, the Trust is committed to values, insights, and programs that help achieve a world free of want, fear, violence, and inequality. To address these threats, the Trust has recently introduced organic farming, disseminated awareness of plastic pollution and water loss and waste at the local level - all actions to mitigate climate change and adapt to the new reality.Since 2014, the SMVA Trust has had an Associate Status with the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC), previously known as DPI. From 2015 to date, the SMVA Trust participated annually in NGO CSW events at the UN headquarters in New York. SMVA Trust is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization actively advancing the all-important SDGs. The Trust has independently been working on many of these goals since its inception in 1995. The SMVA Trust hosts a variety of roundtable conferences across the United States throughout the year, highlighting themes from UN International Days such as Peace, Youth, Food Security, among others. It encourages dialogue among civil society members to bring more awareness and act towards the goals of sustainable development and human rights. The Trust undertakes tangible humanitarian and community service projects, such as free schools, hospitals, mobile medical care, housing, and water treatment plants, serving the most marginalized populations.Free food was served to 250-350 people every month at My Sister's House and Restoration House, shelters for women and children in Atlanta.Uganda Program:In this year, 2024 (through the month of May 2024), communities in Kasese faced the devastating terrible flooding and landslides that destroyed lives and properties, with the following areas/ communities most affected; - Kyarumba, Kyondo, Mahango, Nyakabingo, Maliba and Bugoye. The disaster (floods and landslides) has caused widespread destruction of houses, crops and facilities such as bridges, roads and power lines.PARC-Uganda implemented an emergency food and hygiene relief project in Kasese District to assist 150 displaced households living in temporary camps. The program addressed urgent nutritional and sanitation needs by distributing locally procured supplies, including maize flour, cassava flour, dry beans, ground nuts, iodized salt, bar soaps, reusable sanitary pad kits, and underwear. Implementation was coordinated with the Kasese District Disaster Committee, Kyarumba Town Council, Kyarumba Subcounty staff, and camp leadership to ensure that families with children, pregnant mothers, the elderly, and the disabled received priority assistance. The total cost of $9,865 was absorbed by SMVA Trust.
