COMMUNITY RESOURCE NETWORK - ARC ADVOCATES HELP INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES BY WORKING HARD TO PROTECT THEIR RIGHTS AND TO ENSURE THAT THEY OBTAIN THE SERVICES THEY NEED TO BECOME FULLY PARTICIPATING CITIZENS. ADVOCATES SUPPORT PARENTS IN SECURING SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES, AND HELP THEM UNDERSTAND AND NAVIGATE THROUGH OTHER SERVICE SYSTEMS. THEY ALSO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS IN FINDING HOUSING, PROVIDE INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES, SPEAK TO COMMUNITY GROUPS, AND DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS CONCERNING THE PREVENTION OF MENTAL RETARDATION.
