THE ORGAN DONATION SERVICES PROGRAM AT NEW ENGLAND ORGAN BANK, INC. IS DESIGNED TO EFFECTIVELY COORDINATE AND MAXIMIZE THE DONATION OF ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT IN NEW ENGLAND ORGAN BANK, INC'S DESIGNATED SERVICE AREA. IN ORDER TO FULFILL THIS CORE MISSION AS AN ORGAN PROCUREMENT ORGANIZATION, COORDINATORS ARE AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY TO RESPOND ONSITE AT HOSPITALS WITHIN NEW ENGLAND ORGAN BANK, INC. SERVICE AREA WHEN A POTENTIAL ORGAN DONOR HAS BEEN REFERRED AND IDENTIFIED. THIS INCLUDES EVALUATING EVERY POTENTIAL ORGAN DONOR'S SUITABILITY FOR ORGAN DONATION, OBTAINING AUTHORIZATION FROM, OR DISCLOSING A DONOR'S REGISTERED STATUS TO, THE DONOR LEGAL NEXT OF KIN, MAINTAINING CLINICAL SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE ORGAN RECOVERY PROCESS, AND MANAGING THE COMPLEX LOGISTICS OF THE SURGICAL RECOVERY, PRESERVATION, PACKAGING, TRANSPORTATION AND APPROPRIATE ALLOCATION OF DONATED ORGANS TO RECIPIENTS. AS PART OF THIS SERVICE, COORDINATORS PROVIDE SUPPORT AND INFORMATION ABOUT DONATION TO FAMILIES. IF A PATIENT AUTHORIZED DONATION THROUGH A DONOR REGISTRY, THE COORDINATORS WORK WITH THE FAMILY TO CARRY-OUT THE PATIENT'S DECISION. IF THE PATIENT HAD NOT MADE A DONATION DECISION, THE COORDINATORS WORK WITH FAMILY TO OBTAIN AUTHORIZATION FOR DONATION. THE ORGAN DONATION SERVICES PROGRAM IS FOCUSED ON INCREASING THE NUMBER OF ORGANS AVAILABLE FOR TRANSPLANTATION BY INCREASING THE CONVERSION RATE OF POTENTIAL ORGAN DONORS TO ACTUAL ORGAN DONORS AND BY MAXIMIZING THE PLACEMENT OF ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT. THE NEW ENGLAND ORGAN BANK, INC. SERVES FOURTEEN TRANSPLANT CENTERS. NEW ENGLAND ORGAN BANK, INC. ALLOCATES ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT REGIONALLY AND NATIONALLY THROUGH OPTN NATIONAL SYSTEM. DURING 2024, THERE WERE 648 ORGAN DONORS, 2,027 ORGANS WERE RECOVERED, AND 1,570 ORGANS WERE TRANSPLANTED.
