Eighteen members volunteer to serve as docents for four hour shifts on Family Day, held one Sunday each month for nine months. This is the only time the collection is open to the public. Visitors come from around the world to view the fine collection of American antiquities.

Forty-three members work three hour shifts monthly at the house. Members staff the volunteer office where duties include taking & forwarding all business calls, registering children seeking treatment in the Texas Medical Center, checking families in and out of the house, preparing and serving lunches, and other responsibilities as they are assigned.
