Chinese School:Compared to prior academic year, enrollment declined by 31% to 249 students due to demograhics of the target population and online learning.We continue to maintain the same number of teachers, teacher assistants and volunteers offering various levels of instruction including Chinese language, classical dance, and Math to expose our students to a variety of activities, ideas and learning. With operating expenses remained elevated, this resulted a net loss of of $6,862.We organized several events promote further learning of the Chinese language. We had over 120 students take part in a Spelling Bee Competition lasting 7 weeks. There were about 100 participants in our Story Telling Competition which had to be held in 30 sessions.We also organized two field trips to the local food bank. Each trip comprised about 30 students volunteers - sorting out raw materials and shelving for 2 hours.

Peking Opera:Started out as a casual activity, the Peking Opera Academy has evolved into a full-fledged program. Currently, the program has 30 students aged 5 to 65. For the second consecutive year, the Peking Opera was sponsored by the Art Center of the Capital Region. The academy has been featured on TV and The Times Union. The students performed in various venues such as public libraries and Proctor Theater. Last December, the group held a mid-term show at the UAlbany Performing Art Center with over 200 attendees.

Other Cultural Activities:On Feb 11, 2024, the CCC celebrated the annual Lunar New Year at the Egg Center of the Performing Arts. The gala show presented traditional Chinese Dragon dance, Kungfu, and Peking Opera. The event was sold out with over 3,000 attendees (including 260 volunteers).The annual picnic was held at Elm Avenue Park. Over 350 members and non-members came to the event - reconnecting with friends and families over delicious, barbecue chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers.The Health Fair was held at Union College with over 200 attendees. This program was sponsored by the Dept. of Health Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Prevention. The fair provides health related information and free screenings such as blood pressure checks and blood glucose monitoring. We had cancer and internal medicine specialists presentations.
