Anti-kleptocracy Programming: Accomplishments include the following: (1) Submitted an updated sanctions report about VP Teodorin, with the Office of Sanctions Coordination (State Dept) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (Treasury). (2) Held several working sessions with investigators from State and Treasury and witnesses to compile a comprehensive (and final) sanctions report covering VP Teodorin and key enablers. (3) Compiled evidence and worked with the International Lawyers Project on filing for a submission for sanction w/ the EU Council, targeting four government officials in Equatorial Guinea. (3) In partnership with TI-Portugal and TI-Brazil, helped with building a Lusophone Network of Good Governance (RedGOV) to combat transnational kleptocracy within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Nations (CPLP). This collaboration with NGOs in Lusophone nations allows us to document and expose the Equatoguinean kleptocrats activities in the CPLP countries. (4) As part of the Opening Central Africa Coalition (OCA), we worked with local artists to produce hip hop music and art to raise awareness about corruption and democracy. (5) Collaborated on congressional, media, and shareholders advocacy with the Environmental Investigation Agency, following the release of the report entitled The Dictators Door, which focused on corruption in Equatorial Guinea and its links to Chinese companies.

Human Rights Defense/Advocacy: (1) Worked with the Equatoguinean Commission of Jurist and the Observatory of Lawyers in Danger to offer legal assistance and eventually secure the release of lawyer Angel Obama (Dec), and a former minister of Justice, Ruben Maye (Aug 2). (2) Collaborated on a joint-submission to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on behalf of lawyer and human rights defender, Anacleto Micha. (3) Collaborated with the Equatoguinean Commission of Jurist to offer legal assistance to 47 individuals arrested in connection to an environmental crisis on the island of Annobon. EG Justice is also offering humanitarian assistance (with support from Freedom House) to the family members of the detainees. (4) Submitted an NGO report to the Universal Periodic Review of Equatorial Guinea, and collaborated with 12 NGOs on various issues, including, digital rights, torture, freedom of speech, migration, health, education, LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality. Most of the recommendations proposed by the coalition were adopted and relayed by the UN delegations that participated in the review.
