SOHCN HAS FACILITATED AND CONTINUES TO FACILITATE ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDING FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE RURAL DEVELOPMENT, APPALACHIAN REGIONAL COMMISSION, AND FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION TO DEVELOP A FIBER OPTIC NETWORK AVAILABLE TO HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN A THIRTY-FOUR (34) COUNTY REGION OF SOUTHERN OHIO AND IS WORKING ON APPLICATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDING FROM OTHER FEDERAL, STATE AND PRIVATE SOURCES TO: - DEPLOY BROADBAND TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT HEALTH CARE INNOVATION AND GENERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT; - EXPAND TELEMEDICINE AVAILABILITY; - IMPLEMENT ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD SYSTEMS ACROSS A WIDE ARRAY OF PROVIDERS IN THE REGION; - PARTICIPATE AND SUPPORT REGIONAL, STATE AND NATIONAL HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGES; - CREATE AND UTILIZE REGION-WIDE PATIENT DATABASES FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES; AND - DEVELOP AND TEST EFFECTIVENESS OF TRIAL PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE HEALTH CARE EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICIENCY.
