Dr. William Goold and GIM in conjunction with its Kenyan partner Shalom Water Ministries, headed by Dr. Michael Lolwerikoi, worked throughout the year to support and minister to the Samburu tribes of northern Kenya. These tribes have been long term partners of GIM and assist in spreading the use of orality teaching methods to enhance the learning and the lives of students and adults in the villages in the region around Maralal. Due to the travel restrictions imposed by COVID 19, Dr. Goold was unable to travel but the support of the schools, churches and villages continued as GIM and its donors provided funds for several needs. One of the biggest needs during the year was supplemental food due to the drought conditions and GIM provided $16,600 during the year for food commodities. Completion of water catchment systems at three different villages and some repairs at three schools needed $12,050. Another $1,140 was used to provide support food , rent and school fees for some single parents. A medical eye clinic was held in Maralal City and 550 patients were treated including 105 cataract surgeries, for a cost of $3,050. And $4,000 was allocated for Dr. Lolwerikoi for administration & travel expenses for the entire year. Total funds from all donors for these needs amounted to $36,850.
