Since 2010, K9 Care Montana has been providing AT NO COST service dogs mitigating PTS and mobility to Wounded Veterans and children challenged by autism, The incorporation of our customized outdoor program makes it for a very unique experience. In 2018 we extended all programs and services to First Responders.

K9CMT isnt a big organization, but as the saying goes, we fight above our weight. This year we got a lot done. Public awareness is critical to our mission. There is a great deal of misunderstanding about what is and isnt a service dog and their roles in folks lives. Not every furry pet that brings us joy is entitled to wear the vest. Service dogs are trained to remediate specific conditions that burden their humans. As an example, right now we are training two dogs to help with psychiatric issues and one focused on mobility. The lengthy list of events weve undertaken to expand awareness include: 4-H and Scout presentations; discussions with an Order of the Eastern Star; hosting a farmers market booth; participation in Park Countys Give a Hoot program. Importantly, you can read about us in in the upcoming winter edition of The Big Sky Journal. Even the nationally recognized Tunnel to Towers Foundation knows us having recently granted a home to a veteran who depends on one of our dogs. A few years ago, we retired our breeding female. She had done her job well. Subsequently we acquired needed quality pups from external sources. Jo-Jo was one of those pups. She is now in her second season and we are working with the vet to inseminate her with cryogenically stored sperm of my first personal service dog, Hopper, a nationally recognized champion yellow lab. This is an exciting story that I will share in greater detail in our annual report. Keep your paws crossed.
