The Indiana Artisan Carmel store is a 2500 square-foot store strategically located in the Carmel Arts and Design District, a favorite shopping destination for residents of Carmel and other parts of Greater Indianapolis, as well as out-of-town visitors. Staffing of the store is by the President of Indiana Artisan and various artisans, which results in customers having an opportunity to speak directly to artisans. Nearly all of the merchandise is on consignment from the artisans, who receive 60 percent of the sales price while the store receives 40 percent. This gives the artisans a retail outlet they don't have to manage, and is an effective teaching tool for how they can expand their businesses. Expenses include President's time and promotional costs which are fully allocated to Carmel.
