As we wrap up our 2024-2025 school year at the Christian Culinary Academy, the first-year Certificate in Culinary Arts students are now at their summer internships for 12 weeks to complete their graduation requirements. This is an essential time for them to have more practical hands-on practice in a working kitchen under the supervision of a chef dedicated to overseeing their learning objectives and providing purposeful opportunities for practicing their skills and gaining confidence before starting their career. After the end of the second-year Certificate in Culinary Management program, those students took a six-week trip to France. CCA was able to set up a short-term cooking experience at Chteau de la Grifferaie, a study abroad program, a bakery near there, and a tour of Paris and Provence to learn about the culture and cuisine. This experience serves to broaden the perspective of the students as they better understand the connections between food, community, and history, and how they all work together to help define the culinary cultures of today. The Christian Chefs International Conference, hosted by CCA, was a success. Cooks, bakers, and chefs from all over the states came for educational seminars, Christian fellowship and encouragement, and a baking class. The students team-taught a seminar on mocktails and small plates under the leadership of the Culinary Management students, who were responsible for creating the seminar from start to finish as one of the competency tests. It was amazing, and they passed! We are encouraged by those who give financially, pray for the students and school, come to be instructors, provide catering opportunities, host students for internships, and/or participate as guests for events like the pop-up cafs and dine-in restaurant. It really is wonderful to see supporters from our community and beyond helping these students to achieve their dreams of becoming successful cooks, chefs, and bakers.
