Wild Blue Cats seeks to save the precious lives of cats and kittens who are neglected, abandoned, abused, displaced, or surrendered and find them forever homes or provide them lifetime sanctuary. Wild Blue Cats supports people in our community by providing opportunities for emotional/physical healing through animal therapies. In 2025 our focus again remained on cats in El Paso County, but we also regularly help cats throughout Colorado and from Texas, New Mexico and occasionally California. In 2025 there were 1,071 cats taken in who were in need of safety and care; 1011 cats were adopted to loving homes.Best Friends Animal Society has recognized Wild Blue for consistently having a save rate of over 90%. Since Wild Blue was founded, over 13,000+ cats have been positively impacted by Wild Blue, and there have been over 765 community cats in the Frontier Ferals TNR program that were fixed and vaccinated in 2025 alone. Wild Blue continues working with national organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society, Petco, and Petsmart. Wild Blue continues to work with regional agencies such as DDFL Solutions, Teller County Animal Shelter, National Mill Dog Rescue in Falcon/Peyton, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, JJs Helping Paws, Happy Cats Haven, Feline Fix and St. Paws Thrift Store. To promote finding forever homes for our cats, Wild Blue holds adoptions events every Saturday which alternate between a Petco store and a Petsmart store in Colorado Springs. In 2025, Wild Blue's primary veterinary partner was Ponderosa Vet Clinic. Dr Erin Davezac, Dr Lauren Abrahamsen, Dr Allison Black, Dr Angelina Piccoli, Dr Leann Pape, Dr Audrey Washburn and Dr Katie Redd provided high quality high volume (HQHV) spay/neuter services. Much of this support is funded by the Bissell Fix the Future program. Wild Blue continues its trap/neuter/return program - Frontier Ferals - focusing on pregnant and nursing feral cats and their kittens. Our Fix Feline Families program continued during 2025 and is funded primarily using grant funding from the Petco Foundation, Petsmart Charities and our fundraising efforts. Our feral cat sanctuary - Maya's Friends Wildheart Village was expanded in 2019 to add a second sanctuary primarily for nursing and pregnant mothers. In 2024 we added Bilbo's Barn Buddies, to house cats in our Barn Cat program. Kaylene's Cradle is Wild Blue's nursery and the highlights for 2025 include: 22 resilient mamas found safety and love to raise their babies; 96 kittens were cared for and socialized; 48 births; and 24 orphans were cared for. The Critical Care Unit started initial construction in 2019 and was completed in 2025 and put into service. The unit includes a nursery for pregnant/nursing queens and neonatal orphaned kitties. The Critical Care Unit also has space for a limited number of FeLV positive cats. A very extensive sanctuary remodel was completed during 2025 that allows Wild Blue to provide even better care for our residents while their wait for their forever homes. Wild Blue makes extensive use of volunteers and currently has over 200 active volunteers.
