Abortion Support Fund: In 2023 we supported 735 Kentuckians. Of those 735 Kentuckians we spent $91,891 in direct patient funding, $29,604 in transportation support like airfare, bus tickets and direct gas assistance, $18,881 in hotels and lodging, and $11,150 in additional practical support that we acknowledge as barriers to care included but not limited to, childcare stipends, and meals.Also in 2023 we partnered with Provide, Inc. on a pilot project to develop an evaluation process to collect caller feedback and engage them in our work. Provide assisted us in testing a caller follow-up survey in English and Spanish. The main themes in the groups feedback about their experience with the Abortion Support Fund included: going above and beyond, responsiveness and texting right back, emotional support and kindness, being there, following up, and not being able to access abortion care without KHJN.

Take Root Conference: Take Root is an annual conference providing a space for reproductive justice engagement. The focus is on reproductive justice work in red states, or states that have majority conservative legislative power. Take Root is focused on education and outreach to meet people where they are and engage with ally organizations and academic partners. Its important that students and grassroots activists feel empowered to continue the legacy of participating in this tremendous work. Some themes in 2023 centered around gender justice (and more specifically the links between escalating attacks on abortion and gender-affirming care), practical support, and advocating for youth. We returned to an in-person event for the first time since 2018, with 170 attendees. Keynote: Centering Trans Voices in Reproductive Justice Five trans and gender non-conforming panelists addressed why gender justice is imperative for reproductive justice, avenues in which trans people are denied reproductive justice, and how their trans identity impacted their own abortion stories. Panelists also made clear why more inter-movement work is needed. Plenaries: Janes Due Process - Empowering and Centering Young People Who Have Had Abortions in Advocacy Advocates for Youth - The Fire This Time! Trans Health Advocacy Our Trans Health Advocacy program works to help Trans Kentuckians access healthcare, as well as reaffirm their autonomy and community. In 2023 faced numerous attacks in the state house culminating in the eventual passage of SB 150. SB 150 touched every aspect of life for trans youth in our state. It impedes their right to a safe quality education by threatening their safety and facilitating an environment of hostility. It also banned life-saving gender-affirming care for trans youth in the state. In response, we worked with Campaign for Southern Equality to connect with a network of clinics in neighboring states, and to provide comprehensive healthcare navigation and funding for youth and their families affected by SB 150. Most of the 324 Kentuckians we supported this year received multiple services from us including case management, connection to online and community resources, help navigating insurance, financial assistance, advice regarding self-advocacy, and emotional processing.We supported the 324 Kentuckians with $7,305 emergency housing Gender-Affirming Items/Medical Costs $6,598.97 Gas $2,120, and $6,598 on Copays, Binders Tucking Underwear/Gaffs Packers Breast Forms STP Packing Underwear Other Gender-Affirming Items (Clothing, Make-Up, Wigs) The Emergency Needs category provides assistance for a variety of urgent needs such as housing, utilities, and food. The gender-affirming surgery grants are distributed to four people per year as $2,500 grants. Gas funding is used for Kentuckians who have to travel for gender-affirming care. We hosted 11 events with an average of 42 attendees per event. Including five town halls across the state to share information and resources in the wake of SB150. Other events focused on skill building, like a Grassroots Lobbying Training and a Trans Justice Communications Training. In the midst of the legislative session we also took the time to celebrate at a virtual event centering Trans Joy
