Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina partners with local affiliates to expand access to safe and affordable housing. Through the homeownership program, qualified families purchase homes at affordable mortgage rates - often below market and sometimes interest-free - with payments that never exceed 30 of household income. In a typical year Habitat will build and sell 300 affordable homes across North Carolina. The home preservation program helps low- to moderate-income homeowners remain in their homes by funding repairs that address health, safety, and code issues. In a typical year Habitat will complete 1,000 home repairs across North Carolina. In addition, Habitat NC provides affiliates with financial support and best practice training to strengthen their capacity to deliver these services. Advocacy Habitat NC coordinates affiliate involvement in state-level, non-partisan, non-lobbying advocacy activities. We promote actions at the local, state, and federal level that expand access to affordable homeownership opportunities, invest in affordable housing production and preservation, reduce land development and infrastructure development costs, and prioritize land for affordable housing. In a typical year, Habitat NC achieves these results through hosting a state-wide Housing day at the NC Legislature, promoting in-district affiliate involvement with elected officials and hosting quarterly advocacy updates for the affiliate network.

Disaster Recovery Habitat NC coordinates disaster recovery relationships, activities and resources for the NC affiliate network in the period following natural disasters. Immediately following a natural disaster, Habitat NC works to assess damage across the affiliate network including impact to affiliate operations and impact upon Habitat partner families. An affiliate cohort is formed to coordinate resources, share best practices and administer shared funding. Habitat NC maintains a fleet of two long-term recovery vehicles that are deployed to affiliates working in disaster recovery to increase their capacity to serve their communities post-disaster.
