HDI aims to free populations of debilitating diseases which are deemed to be eradicable as public health problems, but insufficiently addressed at the time HDI becomes engaged, and terrible diseases/conditions where low-cost interventions can greatly reduce their occurrence. Currently, the Organization is working to eradicate Guinea Worm Disease, Lymphatic Filariasis, and in the reproductive health arena to prevent Obstetric Fistula, and robustly reduce maternal mortality due to bleeding and hpertensive catastrophes in pregnancy. In addition, HDI is engaged in the Integrated Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases in large, economically disdvantaged populations.
