The WVFD is on call and ready to serve 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The department is dispatched by the Winsted Police Department by calling 911. Every Firefighter in the WVFD carries a pager (receiving radio) that is set to notify and provide instructions from the dispatcher at the police department. In recent years WVFD has responded to motor vehicle accidents, house fires, forest and grass fires, basement pump-outs, chemical spills, downed power lines, and search and rescue operations. In addition to calls in our service area, WVFD is often called to help surrounding communities (Mutual Aid Calls). WVFD routinely responds to assist the Winsted Fire Department and fire services for Norfolk, Colebrook, Goshen and the State of Connecticut.
