In 2024, we continued to play a pivotal role in advancing data-driven solutions to global challenges. With ongoing geopolitical instability, climate-related disasters, and economic pressures straining international financing systems, our work provided vital evidence and advocacy to drive more effective responses. We contined our focus on development finance, publishing extensive analysis of the disbursement of Official Development Assistance including top recipients and the increasing cost of loans to the least developed countries. We carried out work on gender and data, which highlighted the challenges tracking investment in gender-responsive climate finance. Our work on crisis financing highlighted the disproportionate support for high-profile crises compared to neglected emergencies, reinforcing the need for a more equitable and needs-based approach to funding. Additionally, we tracked how international funding mechanisms are adapting-or failing to adapt-to climate-driven displacement and conflict-induced food insecurity. In Uganda and Nepal, we continued our work with local governments to strengthen their capacity to integrate real-time data into decision-making, improving public service delivery and accountability. We expanded our efforts in Africa, partnering with civil society organizations and local governments to enhance data transparency in budget planning and public expenditures, particularly in sectors critical to poverty reduction. On climate finance, we published analyses on the widening gap between promised and delivered climate funding. We also developed a new monitoring framework to track climate adaptation finance at both national and local levels, helping governments and civil society actors hold international partners accountable for their commitments. Additionally, we published analysis of the flaws in reporting practices in climate finance, using a natural language processing model. In October 2024, Development Initiatives Poverty Research, a UK-based entity linked to DIPRA, ceased operations because of funding challenges. At this point our work scaled back very significantly. In the final period of the year we worked on ensuring an appropriate transition and considering the best focus for the entity going forward.
