Abstinence Education ProgamStudents Taught: 1,500Accomplishments: For sixteen years, the Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center has funded and provided an Abstinence Program in the schools (beginning with the 2007-2008 school year). The Center partners with Relationships Under Construction to provide federally approved curriculum. Students are taught the consequences of behavior that puts them at risk for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. They are taught not only the physical consequences, but also the long-term consequences concerning their life goals. When the program began in 2007, Highland County was 4th in the state for teen pregnancy. Highland County is not 29th in the state for teen pregnancies. The program continues to get great feedback from students and teachers.
