THE CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE (CWH) IS AN ALL-VOLUNTEER OUTREACH MINISTRY OPEN MON-FRIDAY AND OFFERS A DAY-TIME SAFE HAVEN FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS OF SAN ANTONIO. AT CWH, THEY CAN RELAX, ENJOY BREAKFAST AND LUNCH, VISIT WITH FRIENDS, USE RESTROOMS, AND HAVE ACCESS TO LIMITED VOLUNTEER HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS. VOLUNTEERS, IN COLLABORATION WITH TRAVELING LOAVES AND FISHES, SERVE APPROXIMATELY 150 MEALS PER DAY (BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND SUPPER OFF SITE) ON WEEKDAYS. CWH ALSO PROVIDES HYGIENE SUPPLIES, SOCKS, UNDERWEAR, BLANKETS, WARM GEAR (JACKETS, GLOVES, HATS), READING GLASSES AND BUS PASSES TO ABOUT 3,000 PERSONS PER YEAR. FREE LAUNDRY SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE DAILY, ALLOWING APPROXIMATELY 30 PEOPLE/WEEK TO WASH THEIR CLOTHES. CWH SERVES AS A POSTAL ADDRESS FOR 1200 PERSONS TO RECEIVE IMPORTANT MAIL SUCH AS GOVERNMENT CHECKS, SOCIAL SECURITY AND FOOD STAMP COMMUNICATIONS AND OTHER OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS ALONG WITH PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE TO HELP MAINTAIN CONTACT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. ADDITIONAL GUESTS CAN ACCESS COMMUNICATION SERVICES SUCH AS WI-FI, INTERNET, AND LOCAL/LONG DISTANCE PHONE SERVICES.
