Nixyawii Community School is a nonprofit corporation that was incorporated on August 10, 2004 under the laws of the State of Oregon. Pendleton School District #16R and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation entered into a Charter School Contract on March 30, 2004 to operate the School as an Oregon Charter School under the provisions of Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 338, which is located on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. The School is responsible for instructional time and curriculum development as allowed under State law for grades 9 through 12.The purpose and focus of the School is to increase educational opportunities for students who are in danger of dropping out, to develop high academic standards, and academic achievement and to develop leadership skills.
