In addition to Horticulture (plant propagation, plant collection development, display development and maintenance), Public Education and Plant Conservation the Friends ofVallarta Botanical Gardens supported an array of expanded initiatives and activities in 2023. A number of Festivals were held to celebrate and provide education about birds, plants and the importance of habitats and environmental conservation for all age groups: The Vallarta Bird and Nature Festival, the Chocolate and Vanilla festival were held, Hummingbird week provided many activities in June and Butterfly week in September highlighted the amazing diversity conserved within the Gardens. Work continued with the protection of the Ocelot sanctuary and expansion of the lands for Conservation and in addition to Wednesdays hosting large numbers of school
children of all ages the Education staff added a Tuesday outreach program at the local school in Las Juntas y Los Veranos a small town near the Gardens with the mission to inspire the youth of Cabo...
children of all ages the Education staff added a Tuesday outreach program at the local school in Las Juntas y Los Veranos a small town near the Gardens with the mission to inspire the youth of Cabo Corrientes to value and care for the natural environment. By end of 2023 more than 1,300 children and adults benefitted from this program.Staff participated in the IX World Magnolia Synposium in Honduras, American Public Gardens meeting in Fort Worth Texas, and the Festival of Science and Sustainability presenting an exhibit of activities in favor of Conservation. The Gardens was declared a Natural Reserve of Areas Voluntarily Destined for Conservation as part of the Conservation in Action program, and hosted the Second Regional Botany Congress

Awards this year included Best International Garden to visit in 2024 given by the Canadian Garden Tourism Council and funding from Botanic Gardens Conservation International(Levy Nature Plant Preserve Grant) for the propagation of four Encyclia species native to west Mexico.Unfortunately, Hurricane Lidia made a direct hit on Cabo Corrientes October 10,2023 and damaged the roofs of the Hacienda and some conservatories. It required many days of work to clean up and make repairs, work that the Friends were able to support. The total visitors this year was nearly 55,000 people.
