Our largest project of 2025 involved stabilizing the home of an elderly couple after a major landslide caused by Hurricane Helene threatened the property's structural integrity. The storm washed away a significant portion of the embankment supporting the home, creating an urgent safety risk. Our team first cleared extensive trees and debris deposited at the base of the slide, then constructed a culvert system to redirect water flow and prevent further erosion. We subsequently built a retaining wall that is a 30-foot above ground, three-tier Verti-Block retaining wall and has a 6-feet below ground base that restored the stability of the property and provides long-term flood mitigation protection for the home.

During the 2025 tax year, SOS Group began construction of a replacement home for a family whose prior residence was completely washed from its foundation and swept downriver during Hurricane Helene. Because the home site is located near a creek and the storm significantly altered the riverbank, shifting the waterway closer to the property, the replacement two-bedroom, two-bathroom home was constructed on an elevated pier foundation to improve flood resilience and reduce the risk of future storm damage. Work completed during 2025 included site preparation, foundation installation, and substantial progress toward construction of the new residence, which was designed to closely match the size and functionality of the original home. The project was completed in 2026. Reported expenses include only amounts incurred during the 2025 tax year.
