Mission

IN 1946, THE YOUNGSTOWN COMMITTEE ON ALCOHOLISM, INC., DBA NEIL KENNEDY RECOVERY CLINIC (NKRC) OPENED TO SERVE THE RESIDENTS OF YOUNGSTOWN, OH AND THE MAHONING VALLEY. THE CLINIC WAS FOUNDED BY INDIVIDUALS THAT HAD PERSONAL HISTORIES OF ADDICTION AND WHO UNDERSTOOD THE NEED FOR A SAFE, SECURE PLACE WHERE ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG-DEPENDENT INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES COULD RECEIVE COMPASSIONATE CARE AND PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT SERVICES. NKRC IS KNOWN FOR ITS QUALITY OF CARE AND RESPECT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL, AND PROVIDES SOME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT INSURANCE OR OTHER MEANS TO PAY FOR TREATMENT. DICK RILEY FELLOWSHIP HALL IS PART OF THE ORGANIZATION AND PROVIDES INDIVIDUALS IN THE RECOVERY COMMUNITY WITH A SPACE TO GATHER FOR 12-STEP MEETINGS AND RECOVERY-FOCUSED SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. NKRC IS PRESENTLY IN DISCUSSIONS WITH MERDIAN HEALTHCARE, AN OHIO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION TO DEVELOP A RECOVERY COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION (RCO). THE SOLE MISSION OF AN RCO IS TO MOBILIZE RESOURCES WITHIN AND OUTSIDE OF THE RECOVERY COMMUNITY TO INCREASE THE PREVALENCE AND QUALITY OF LONG-TERM RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG ADDICTIONS.
