Once a year, we engage in a fundraiser with World's Finest Chocolate. Participating students take home a box of chocolate bars which includes 60 bars. Students sell the bars for $1 each and bring the $60 to the PTA. Upon turning in the $60, students may take home another box to sell, if desired. Students enjoy the friendly competition and are awarded prizes for selling a certain number of boxes. At the end of the fundraiser, the PTA awards other prizes to the top sellers. The revenue from this fundraiser was $29,322 and the payment to World's Finest Chocolate for the cost of the bars sold was $14,805. The cost of prizes was $1,153. Therefore, the net profit from this fundraiser was $13,364.

When setting the budget each year, the PTA is often presented with requests for items to be paid throughout the year. This year, the PTA paid for prizes for student accomplishments (5th grade graduation, reading challenge, etc), supplemental resources for teachers (reading materials, subscription for educational website) and offset the costs of school expenses (bussing for field trips, volunteer fingerprinting expense, laminating expense). These expenses totaled $5,834 and we had a refund of $34 due to returning unused supplies. Therefore, the net expense for this program service was $5,800.

Program 3

Twice a year, we host a dance on a Friday night in which students and families are invited to attend. Each family is asked to pay $10 for entry into the dance. Concessions are sold throughout the night, with most items selling for $1 or $2 each. The proceeds from this event help fund other PTA initiatives throughout the school year.
