THE 2022-2023 SEASON SHOWCASED THE RESILIENCY OF THE TOLEDO ALLIANCE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (TAPA). THE TOLEDO SYMPHONY CELEBRATED CONDUCTOR ALAIN TRUDEL'S FIFTH SEASON WITH SOME OF THE GREATEST FIFTH SYMPHONIES, INCLUDING THOSE BY BEETHOVEN AND SHOSTAKOVICH. THE ORCHESTRA FILLED OVER A DOZEN VACANCIES, ADDING NEW PERSONNEL AND TALENT TO THE 79-YEAR-OLD ENSEMBLE. THE TOLEDO BALLET WELCOMED NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR ERIC OTTO AND CELEBRATED RECORD-BREAKING TICKET SALES FOR TCHAIKOVSKY'S NUTCRACKER AND PROKOFIEV'S CINDERELLA. THIS SEASON SAW A NEW, HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TOLEDO JAZZ ORCHESTRA (TJO) IN WHICH THE TJO SAW SOME OF THE HIGHEST-ATTEND CONCERTS IN ITS HISTORY. THIS SEASON ALSO REESTABLISHED CHORAL INITIATIVES, INCLUDING PERFORMANCES OF HANDEL'S MESSIAH, PUCCINI'S MESSA DI GLORIA, AND MAHLER'S THIRD SYMPHONY. IN MAY, CELLIST YO-YO MA JOINED THE TOLEDO SYMPHONY IN A RECORD-SETTING, SOLD-OUT, HIGHLY ANTICIPATED PERFORMANCE OF ELGAR'S CELLO CONCERTO. THE 2022-23 SEASON REPRESENTED A RETURN TO PRE-PANDEMIC AUDIENCES AND REPERTOIRE, PAVING THE WAY FOR CONTINUED GROWTH.
