THE METROHEALTH FOUNDATION SUPPORTS THE PATIENT CARE, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES OF THE METROHEALTH SYSTEM (METROHEALTH). SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1837, METROHEALTH HAS BEEN MEETING THE HEALTH CARE NEEDS OF EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY. AS CUYAHOGA COUNTY'S ONLY PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM, METROHEALTH REMAINS STEADFAST IN ITS COMMITMENT TO CREATE A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY AND RECENTLY COMPLETED A FIVE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN FOCUSED ON ACCESS + QUALITY, COMMUNITY + PEOPLE, AND TEACHING + RESEARCH. THE PLAN WAS DEVELOPED WITH INPUT FROM 140 INTERNAL LEADERS, MORE THAN 2,000 EMPLOYEES AND OVER 3,000 COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS. METROHEALTH'S STAFF OF NEARLY 9,000 DELIVERS CARE AT FOUR METROHEALTH HOSPITALS, FOUR EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS AND MORE THAN 20 NEIGHBORHOOD-BASED HEALTH CENTERS AND SITES THROUGHOUT CUYAHOGA COUNTY. IN THE PAST YEAR, METROHEALTH SERVED 300,000 PATIENTS AT NEARLY 1.56 MILLION VISITS IN ITS HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CENTERS, TWO-THIRDS OF WHOM ARE UNINSURED OR COVERED BY MEDICARE OR MEDICAID. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE, PATIENT-CENTERED PRIMARY CARE, METROHEALTH IS NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR ITS ADVANCED TECHNIQUES IN TREATING COMPLEX MEDICAL PROBLEMS. IT IS HOME TO CUYAHOGA COUNTY'S MOST EXPERIENCED LEVEL 1 ADULT TRAUMA CENTER, VERIFIED SINCE 1992, AND ONE OF ONLY TWO ADULT AND PEDIATRIC TRAUMA AND BURN CENTERS IN OHIO.AS AN ACADEMIC MEDICAL CENTER, METROHEALTH IS COMMITTED TO TEACHING AND EDUCATION. EACH ACTIVE STAFF PHYSICIAN HOLDS A FACULTY APPOINTMENT AT CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. MORE THAN 2,500 RESIDENTS, FELLOWS, AND STUDENTS TRAINED AT METROHEALTH IN THE PAST YEAR.
