LifeCenter On The Green, Inc. (Galter LifeCenter) is a non-profit organization affiliated with Swedish Covenant Health, whose mission is to provide health maintenance and illness/injury prevention through fitness, rehabilitation, nutrition and educational programs. The main program service that Galter LifeCenter provides is continuous health maintenance which is achieved through active membership in its fitness and healthcare programs. Galter LifeCenter had over 5,916 members, and 236,861 member visits during the fiscal year. In addition to providing services to its members, the Galter LifeCenter promotes its mission through several healthcare programs offered to the community. During the fiscal year, the Galter LifeCenter offered the following programs:Charitable Memberships:Galter LifeCenter is dedicated to providing quality health maintenance to those in need regardless of ability to pay. During the fiscal year 224 individuals received charitable memberships valued at $89,700. Health Screenings, Health Promotion and Education:In addition to providing services to its members, Galter LifeCenter promotes its mission through various healthcare programs offered to the community. Blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, stress tests and health risk appraisals are offered to the community. Classes, wellness programs, lectures and telephone information services are offered to the community for free or at a nominal charge. During the fiscal year, 380 persons were served for a cost of $5,212.Community Health and Wellness Services in Affiliation with Swedish Covenant Health: Galter LifeCenter (GLC) partners closely with Swedish Covenant Health to provide a full continuum of health and wellness services. The facility serves as host to free community programs featuring physicians and other clinicians on a range of topics including nutrition, respiratory health, joint health, cardiovascular health, women's health and others. It also serves as home to the hospital's Diabetes Community Center, which is comprised of a team of certified diabetes educators who teaches diabetes self-management techniques. This team also coordinates a monthly diabetes support group which is open to all community members. Additionally the hospital's cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab and physical therapy programs all share space within the Galter LifeCenter. Through this partnership, members and patients work together in a shared environment to achieve their personal health and wellness goals. Physicians throughout Swedish Covenant Health regularly refer patients to Galter LifeCenter's programs and services. One noteworthy collaboration is between the Chicago Brain and Spine Institute and the Integrative Therapy programs at GLC. Frequently, neurosurgeons at the Chicago Brain and Spine Institute refer patients to conservative therapies ranging from acupuncture and massage to Watsu aquatic therapy and Pilates before discussing surgical interventions.Galter LifeCenter also features several other distinct programs in partnership with Swedish Covenant Health. Fundamental Fitness is a collaboration between Swedish Covenant Health and Galter LifeCenter that works with physician referrals to provide a comprehensive 8-week course on health, fitness and wellness topics in a supportive and encouraging environment. The program offers practical knowledge necessary to create a foundation for long-term success in leading a healthy lifestyle, and it is recommended for those that know they need to exercise but don't know where or how to begin. The program is reasonably priced, and scholarships for those unable to afford the program are also available. Total Control program is a class designed to promote bladder control and overall improved pelvic health. It is facilitated by trainers from Galter LifeCenter and works in conjunction with the hospital's urogynecology and physical therapy departments. Finally, 16 Swedish Covenant Health physicians serve on Galter LifeCenter's physician advisory board, which is comprised of professionals from Galter LifeCenter and Swedish Covenant Health. This board meets quarterly to ensure that the center is up-to-date with new trends, events, treatments and procedures in the medical and exercise fields.
