Advocacy National, state and local bicycle advocacy: The League of American Bicyclists promotes and protects the rights of cyclists through advocacy, education and promotion. We advocate for cyclists on Capitol Hill, to the U.S. Department of Transportation, and other Federal Agencies. We work with our affiliates to affect state laws and local ordinances, policies and programs. Our online advocacy center engages people and offers opportunities to speak up for better bicycling to decision makers at all levels. In March, we successfully held the 23rd National Bike Summit, an annual advocacy meeting that brings cyclists to Capitol Hill to speak with representatives and senators. Bicycle Friendly America Program - The League works to make bicycling safe, comfortable, and accessible to all through the Bicycle Friendly State, community, University and Business programs. These programs offer technical assistance from League staff, in-depth applications that give participants an opportunity to self-evaluate, andcustom feedback to all applicants recognized or not. The program, launched in 2003, encourages applicants to provide better infrastructure, encouragement activities, education for cyclists and drivers, and publicly rewards them for doing so. Each application has specific questions that address the importance of reaching everyone through all of these efforts and engaging and underserved populations to bike for transportation and recreation.

Education - The League has been the national cycling education provider for over 50 years, providing printed and electronic materials/videos to build confidence for more biking and safer streets for all. The League offers the only national certification program for bicycling educators.The League has trained more than 6,800 League Cycling Instructors, with 2,300 currently active, which have taught more than hundreds of thousands of students to commute, share the road, ride in traffic, and more. Our curriculum includes a module for drivers to improve driver safety and the safety of bicyclists. The training helps people feel more secure about getting on their bikes. More than 40 League Cycling Instructor Certification Seminars are held around the country each year.
