This new program begun during the later part of the fiscal year is aimed at providing pet food to local food banks, flea prevention, and other good and services such as subsidized inoculations, doghouses, etc. in order to prevent the owner-surrender of owned dogs and cats because of financial reasons. The program initially used excess commodities purchased for use at the shelter prior to its sale at the end of February, 2025, and additional good and subsidized services provided in the month of March, 2025, were paid for in the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Since its inception, this program has been well-received and is expanding.
